Center members’ fields of interest

The Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Emotions serves as a home for many researchers from different disciplines at the University of Haifa, who are interested in studying emotion. The diverse backgrounds of the Center’s researchers are seen, for example, in the rich range of topics that are under study in the Center. Among these are:

Social perception of emotion – What do people who observe the emotions of others learn about these others and the situation at hand from their emotions, and what are the mechanisms that are responsible for this?

Philosophy of emotion – Theories of emotion in philosophy, the essence of emotion and its function, defining emotion and distinguishing it from other similar mental states.

Emotional intelligence – Defining and measuring emotional intelligence, the implications of emotional intelligence for social relations, the validity of the concept of emotional intelligence.

Emotion in management and business – The place of emotion in different organizational processes such as organizational downsizing, inquiries of failure, and performance feedback.

Emotion in education – The role of emotions in learning and teaching processes.
